Yesterday was an excellent opportunity for year 9 parents to hear from Barry Evans who gave a lecture on drugs and alcohol. This was followed by an informal discussion amongst Skipwith year 9 parents on the subject of their adolescent sons. I hope you all found it really useful, we certainly did!
The main topics discussed were:
1. How mobile phones and laptops are being used amongst year 9;
2. Body image issues and how this is skewed given the easy access to material online;
3. A developing interest in substances which are thought to enhance image without proper knowledge of the consequences.
We will be discussing these further in school but hopefully yesterday gave a good opportunity to bring some of these issues in to the open. We may look to hold similar forums in the future for parents in the older year groups too.
